Kalakar children contest

In order to encourage the new generation of singers from the Langa and Manganiyar communities and to help preserve the extraordinary oral heritage of Rajasthan, a selection of 20 talented young singers, from 7 to 14 years of age, will be presented in a contest form with the help of the musician Gazi Khan Barna. The audience will be the jury!

Musical professionalism in tradition society thus goes beyond the simple concept of a normal job or occupation. The music has a particular function reflecting a specific way of life. The professional musician is the link between daily life and spiritual beliefs even in secular folk music. This contest, under the patronage of His Highness Gaj Singhjii II, will consist of helping financially a gifted young singer chosen by the audience, to develop his art and musical knowledge in the future.
